'Brokeback' star Faris joins 'SM4'

Anna Faris, star of May, Lost In Translation and the upcoming Brokeback Mountain, has signed on to star in Scary Movie 4. Poor girl. She is so talented. She made me laugh hard in all three Scary Movies. But really: give it up. She is much better than this. Faris has several other movies coming out this year including the aforementioned Mountain where she plays a character named Jemima. Does she make pancakes or something? We just figured out who E.R.'s Linda Cardallini was playing, so I guess we'll have to wait. If you haven't seen May, I highly suggest it. Faris plays a bisexual vixen and looks damn smokin' in the film.

In the meantime, the MPAA has announced its rating for Brokeback Mountain and its quite interesting:

NC-17 for graphic depictions of dysfunctional relationships, a gruesome cow slaughtering and intense swearing and smoking.

No. That's a lie.

Rated R for sexuality, nudity, language and some violence.

The MPAA has seen the film. BASTARDS! We have to wait 9 months. Maybe I can score some Cannes tickets. Hmm...

*pssst*

Anna Farris' character in BBM, Jemima, was originally named "LaShawn" in the script penned by McMurtry and Ossana. LaShawn is the pretty, airheaded wife of Randall (Jack's rancher-neighbour in Childress, TX).

The question is... does Jack have an affair with Jemima or Randall? Hmmmm... *wink*

Wow, thanks for the info. I don't remember her in the story. I know Anna said her role was just a small cameo, but a pivotal one. I guess I'm kind of disappointed that Faris is playing another airhead. She's capable of so much more, though she has that role down to a tee.

Yeah, I'm glad they changed it from LaShawn to Jemima.

No problem!

Her character is mentioned in the short story, but only indirectly (and not by name):

"Jack said he'd had a thing going with the wife of a rancher down the road in Childress and for the last few months he'd slank around expecting to get shot by Lureen or the husband, one."

However, it is also suggested later in the story that he was lying to Ennis about certain details regarding this affair:

"He had some half-baked idea the two a you was goin a move up here, build a log cabin and help me run this ranch and bring it up. Then, this spring he's got another one's goin a come up here with him and build a place and help run the ranch, some ranch neighbor a his from down in Texas. He's goin a split up with his wife and come back here. So he says." [Jack's father to Ennis]

Apparently, the script hints that it was the rancher himself (Randall) NOT the wife (Jemima) that Jack was carrying on with.

I always presumed it was with the husband. Hmm... A lot of woman in this story have husbands who cheat with other men. I've always thought if this movie risks offending anyone - other than the dumbass bigots, but who cares about them? - it would be the female audience. Then again, I do view Alma's confrontation of Ennis about his affair with Jack as a very powerful scene. I'm hoping Williams slams it out of the park. All of the women walk fine lines as far as performance is concerned, I think. They are angry and distant, but have to remain likeable. Should be interesting to see Miss Hathaway with such a cold final scene as the phonecall between her and Ennis. I don't know if that's handled the same way in the script as it is in the story.

Thanks for all the information and posting. I've been to Wrangling Wranglers a few times. Its really great. There seems to be a lack of places to go for information on the film. Glad you guys exist. :-)

No problem! It's great to hear you've stopped by Wranglers. The more the merrier...

And you're right, there really isn't that much on the net regarding BBM yet (possibly because it's still 9 months away)... the closest thing we have to a countdown/news page is probably Towleroad (http://towleroad.typepad.com/towleroad/)
